Round up your purchases and plant a tree with every swipe. With Plant Your Change, turn your spare change into real world change by funding reforestation projects around the world. Plus, you’ll earn rewards as you reach tree-planting milestones.¹
With Plant Your Change, GreenFi customers can round up purchases on both your GreenFi card and external debit or credit cards. Getting started is simple:
Sign up in less than 5 minutes using Plaid, a secure financial service used by 1 in 4 Americans.
We’ll automatically round up every purchase to the nearest dollar and fund a tree planting with your spare change.⁴
Choose a maximum number of trees to fund each week.
Need a break? You can easily pause Plant Your Change whenever you like.
We work with leading reforestation partners around the world to ensure every tree planted makes a real impact - reviving ecosystems, protecting biodiversity, and supporting local communities. Our planting locations include Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, Honduras, Brazil, and here in the U.S.
You can find more information about our Tree Planting program and read our tree planting FAQs on our Tree Planting page.
The average tree planted by GreenFi's reforestation partners will remove an estimated 252.4 kgCO2e from the earth’s atmosphere over its lifetime.³
To change your Plant Your Change settings, log in to your account by clicking on the Login link in the top navigation. Once logged in, click the tree icon in the upper righthand corner of the page. That will take you to the Planting Preferences page where you can limit the number of transactions you’d like to round up each week or pause your funding and round-ups.
You can also click the profile icon in the upper righthand corner of the page to reach the My Profile page, where you can change your linked debit or credit card, or change your linked bank account (which is charged periodically for your round-ups).
On signing up, you’ll connect your credit or debit card via GreenFi’s platform, using a connection service called Plaid (a safe and secure third party being used by 1 in 4 Americans https://plaid.com/how-we-handle-data/). If you connect a credit card to Plant Your Change, we’ll also ask you to link your bank account from which we will draw the roundups on your purchases.⁴
After that, when you swipe your debit or credit card - we’ll fund a tree planting by rounding up your change.
Example: Coffee Purchase for $3.88 → Rounded-Up to $4! And a tree planting is funded!
It doesn’t matter what kind of card you have or what you buy - each round up funds the planting of a tree!

1 Funded trees can take up to 18 months to plant, allowing for time to set up nurseries, select/expand planting sites, take advantage of optimal planting seasons and accommodate for local/regional/country social, political and health considerations. Planting trees and restoring forests are among the best ways to draw down carbon from the atmosphere, because they can help mitigate the impacts of climate change and contribute to healthy ecosystems that support wildlife and people. Trees planted by our reforestation partners are not intended to be used as carbon offsets and are not verified as such by a third party. Planted trees are part of a reforestation program where approximately 20-30% more trees are planted to account for natural survival rates and unforeseen circumstances (i.e., wildfires, natural disasters, disease) so enough trees survive to reforest an area. However, there is no guarantee all trees planted will be permanent. Review the Plant Your Change disclosure for further details.
2 You maintain responsibility not to place your qualifying financial account in overdraft status, and GreenFi is not liable for any overdraft costs, fees, or penalties. If your qualifying financial transaction is subsequently canceled or reversed, the corresponding Service Fee may remain. The Plant Your Change For All Service is not a securitized product or investment and participation in the Service should not be considered an offer to purchase any security or investment. GreenFi may, at our discretion, cancel, terminate or modify the Service at any time and without notice. Fraud or illegal activity may void participation, retroactively reverse participation, and may subject you to legal action. You may cancel Service at any time.
3 Emissions amounts are calculated using an estimated 252.4 kg CO2e absorbed over each tree’s lifetime, which is based on GreenFi’s current tree planting portfolio with veritree. This CO2e absorption amount is equivalent to avoiding 647 miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle. See more about historical methodologies here.
4 Plant Your Change for All (“Service”) is a standalone service provided through Mission Financial Partners, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MFP Capital Group Inc.(“Mission”) Service Agreement. When you choose to add Service to your Qualifying Financial Account, GreenFi rounds up the amount of a Qualifying Financial Transaction made to the next whole dollar amount (from $XX.01 to $XX.99), and transfers the amount in excess of the purchase price to a Service Account. Even dollar transactions ($XX.00) are not considered qualifying transactions and are not eligible to be rounded up for this Service. The Service charges a variable service fee (the “Service Fee”) ranging from $0.01 up to a maximum of $0.99 per completed qualifying financial transaction. The Service Fee from qualifying financial transactions are automatically included in the rounded up transaction amount, and encompasses the cost of a to-be planted tree through a preselected tree-planting partner, administrative costs, marketing and promotion costs, third-party vendor fees, and other conditional costs. GreenFi may retain, dependent upon the Service Fee for a particular transaction, the remainder.
